October MeetingPresented by...Bruce Phillips
Thursday October 31st- 7:00 PM
JOHNSON FERRY BAPTIST CHURCH
Several years ago Dr. Stephen Meyer wrote a ground breaking book Signature in the Cell in which he set out the case for the need for intelligence at the origin of life. Most of his critics either did not
read the book, misunderstood it, or ignored what he said to make whatever attack they felt necessary. One recurring line was that in the cell today we see genetic material being spliced and recombined to make new
information - so Meyer's hypothesis that information cannot be generated by “natural” processes is obviously refuted.
Or our old friend the fruit fly!
They play starring roles!!!
What a GREAT WAY to spend Halloween!

August MeetingPresented by... Thursday August 29th - 7:30 PM
JOHNSON FERRY BAPTIST CHURCH
This month’s RTB meeting will have a look at the topic of Origins - Origin of the Universe and Origin of Life. This will be a review of some of the content of a meeting titled “How Did It All
Begin?” held at Covenant Fellowship Church in Philadelphia in April of 2013. At that conference, John Lennox gave two addresses titled “Beginning of the Universe” and “Beginning of
Life”. We will view short segments of those two addresses and have a time of discussion of each. The discussion of the “Beginning of the Universe” segment will be led by Dr. Rod Nave, Ph. D.
Physics. The discussion of the “Beginning of Life” segment will be led by Dr. Howard Deutsch, Ph. D. Chemistry. |
June MeetingPresented by... Thursday June 27th - 7:30 PM
JOHNSON FERRY BAPTIST CHURCH
For decades Young-Earth Creationists have challenged many of the generally accepted conclusions of astronomers and geologists that the universe and Earth are billions of years old. They have attempted to offer scientific arguments to legitimize their belief the universe and Earth are only thousands of years old. But do their arguments remain standing when all the evidence is weighed? Astronomer Eric Smith and former Young-Earth Creationist Ben Smith believe the young-Earth arguments collapse under the weight of the evidence. Come and see for yourself. |
May Meeting
Bruce Phillips May 30th - 7:30 PM
JOHNSON FERRY BAPTIST CHURCH
The information for reproducing a living cell or a living human resides in the DNA. Does the ability to modify DNA and produce a new variety of living cell cast doubt on the creative activity of God or affirm it? Fuz Rana argues strongly that the enormous effort and ingenuity required to make small modifications in existing living cells is a powerful pointer to the intentional and intelligent agency of the God of the Bible. We will review the progress made in bioengineering with its promise and potential dangers. |

February Chapter Meeting |
Presided by...February 28th - 7:00 PMRoom 108
Johnson Ferry Baptist Church |
For our February meeting, we will do a review and discussion of two segments of the DVD study series with this title, also making use of the book “Why the Universe is the Way It Is” by Hugh Ross. The basic subject matter is astronomy and cosmology and the strong case that can be made for the God of the Bible from what we see in the universe. The emphasis will be upon how individuals or groups can use this material for small group studies or other types of outreach.
An important part of the agenda of this meeting will be the discussion of possibilities for outreach to churches, youth groups, and other study groups with the important message that science and faith are not enemies. While the “If God Made the Universe” resource will be the resource that will be examined most closely, we will have brief looks at the “Ask” resource from Ravi Zacharias ministries, “The Truth Project” from Focus on the Family and others. If you have a favorite apologetics resource, you are invited to bring it and briefly describe it in this discussion. |
January Chapter Meeting |
Presided by...January 31st - 7:00 PMRoom 105 <<Across the hall from our normal room>>
Johnson Ferry Baptist Church |
For the January meeting, we will examine Hugh Ross’s latest book for the unique insights that the book of Job brings to apologetics.
Is Job the oldest book in the Bible, chronologically? If the content of Job were in the hands of the persons who received Genesis and Deuteronomy, could that help fill some of the alleged gaps in those two books? Ben
Smith will take the lead in discussing these ideas from Ch 1-2 of the book.
Can Job help resolve some of the creation-day controversies? Perhaps Job and Genesis should be looked at together to form a balanced picture of the creation narrative. Eric Smith will take the lead in this discussion, which is addressed in Ch 5 of the book. The book of Job is rich in its treatment of the animal kingdom and the uniqueness of humans in God’s creation. Hugh Ross is a great animal lover and has spent a good bit of time examining the role of animals in the creation. Andrea Smith, also an animal lover, will take the lead in this discussion of humans and animals. Ross’s treatment starts with Ch 7. An examination of the book of Job takes us to some topics that we have not discussed before in an RTB Atlanta meeting, so please join us for a look at Job’s creation narrative and the richness of this unique book of the Bible.
